Split a prompt that does too much
Finds the seams verb by verb, and says when splitting is not the fix.

This prompt is doing too much. **Split it.** 1. **List every distinct thing it asks for.** ***Each verb is a candidate*** — **analyze, then rewrite, then check, then format** 2. **Find where the output of one becomes the input of the next.** ***That is the seam*** 3. **Which parts genuinely need to be together** — ***something is only one step if doing it separately loses information*** 4. **Which part is failing**, from what I described. ***Usually one step is dragging the others down*** **Then design the chain:** - **Per step:** what it takes in, what it produces, ***and what it must not do*** - ***What to carry between steps*** — **the full output, or a summary? Carrying everything defeats the split** - **Where to check before continuing** — ***a step whose bad output would poison the rest*** - **What I do by hand between steps**, if anything **Also:** - ***Whether splitting is actually the fix.* **Sometimes the prompt is fine and the task is genuinely hard.** Say so - **What splitting costs** — more turns, more context to manage, more places to go wrong
