Write a book report from your own reaction

Help me write a book report from my own reading. ***Do not write it for me.***

1. **Sort what I gave you** into: ***what happens in the book*** / ***what I thought*** / ***what I connected it to***. **Most weak reports are almost entirely the first group**
2. **Find what I actually reacted to** — ***the part I stopped at, disagreed with, or did not understand.* **That is where a report becomes mine rather than a summary**
3. **Build the structure:**
   - **An opening from my reaction**, ***not from the author and title***
   - **The minimum plot needed** for a reader to follow my point — ***and no more***
   - **My point, with the passage that produced it**
   - **What changed, or did not**, and honestly which
4. **Per section, tell me what to write** — ***the question to answer, not the sentence***

**Then:**
- ***Where my material is too thin to make a point*** — **say what to go back and look for**
- **Where I am repeating something the book says rather than responding to it**
- ***Where I have written what I think I should have felt*** — **that reads as false and it is the most common failing**
- **What length each section should be**, given the total
